Nutritional Parameters and Long-Hour Hemodialysis

C Chazot, MD

Tassin

Abstract

Nutrition has a great impact on survival of these patients and long hour hemodialysis provides nutritional adequacy. In Tassin until the middle of the nineties, patients received a dialysis treatment according to sixties standard. Progressively in the last 10 years both technique and dialysis prescription have evolved. Dialysis session length prescription is a constant debate between nephrologists and with the patient. The Tassin golden rule is to prescribe a minimum session time of 5 hours 3 times a week. 50% of the patients are treated under this dialysis strategy. The other 50% receive 3 times 6 to 8 hours a week. Time prescription is used as one of the parameters to individualize hemodialysis treatment.
